A new report, 'A Care System for the Future: how digital development can transform adult social care', provides a set of recommendations for DHSC, NHS, ICSs and local authorities to enable more effective digital transformation across the care sector.

Digital transformation across adult social care is occurring rapidly, however uptake is not uniform, and the care sector is yet to fully harness digital tools to transform care delivery. In the context of unprecedented service pressure and demand across health and care, the utilisation of digital tools in care settings has the potential to relieve some pressure by increasing efficiency and better supporting the workforce.

The report provides a set of recommendations for DHSC, NHS, ICSs and local authorities to enable more effective digital transformation across the care sector, encouraging greater usage of digital social care records (DSCRs), the shared care record (ShCR), assistive technologies, improving workforce capabilities and discouraging digital exclusion among those in receipt of social care.

The recommendations from the report include:

- Positively engaging DSCR providers not currently on the assured provider list
- A standard to ensure the inclusion and consultation of end-users at every stage of the design, production, and implementation process of any new technology
- A new forum for social care providers, end users, and technology providers to discuss digital solutions for the sector
- A call for financial support for digital inclusion among people in receipt of adult social care services
- Mandatory digital training for staff

These recommendations are essential for the successful digital transformation of the care sector. By implementing these recommendations, we can ensure that the care sector is able to take full advantage of digital tools and technologies to improve care delivery and support the workforce.

We hope that this report will be a valuable resource for those involved in the digital transformation of the care sector, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact that digital transformation can have on the care sector.
