Funding body:
Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust

The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust is a regular supporter of animal welfare charities and gives out around £500,000 each year.

The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust aims to support projects or activities encompassing one or more of the following:

  • The benefit and protection of animals
  • The relief of suffering in animals
  • The conservation of wildlife
  • The encouragement of a greater understanding of animals

Grants are normally in the range of £1,000 to £10,000, with decisions made three times a year. Smaller amounts however may be considered and grants of less than £1,000 can be processed outside of the grant deadlines.

If you apply for a grant you should expect a visit from a member of the charity prior to receiving a grant.

In order to apply applicants are required to complete a Charity applicant questionnaire as well as providing additional information that may be relevant.

The Trust aims to support UK registered charities by making donations toward the following:

  • General running costs associated with the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing or release of domestic, wild and exotic animals.
  • Costs associated with the direct protection of endangered species.
  • Feeding, capture, neutering and release of feral cats.
  • Assistance with vets’ fees and neutering costs of animals owned by those on low incomes.
  • Donations towards capital purchases involving land, buildings, vehicles, equipment and educational material. The Trustees may pledge funds towards large capital building projects, which will only be released when all other funding is in place and the work is ready to commence. The maximum pledge we will give is £35k.
