*Gawsworth Community Shop Ltd, a Community Benefit Society, was established in 2010 for the benefit of the inhabitants of the parish of Gawsworth through the takeover and management of the last remaining shop in the village. In addition to providing a local store for the village, the shop encourages a sense of community within the village and a place of social interchange and source of information. Plans are in place to purchase an adjoining ground for flat to create a Village Hub and meeting point for Gawsworth residents and a range of service providers.

*The shop is financially viable and is fully owned by its shareholders (members). Apart from two, part-time paid supervisors, the shop is run by volunteers and is open 7 days per week. As a registered Mutual Society, the shop is regulated by the FCA.

*As we approach this new and exciting phase for our Community Shop, we are looking to attract new Directors and new skills to the Board to help us expand the business to better serve the needs of the community. This opportunity may be of interest to professionals in the early stages of their careers, adding valuable experience to their portfolio, through to those approaching retirement who may want to use their wealth of experience for the benefit of their local community.
*Directors may be co-opted to support specific projects or elected to serve on a three- year rotation basis and with other Directors be involved in the governance of the shop, providing overall direction and the effective management of funds.
