CVSCE Response - Autumn Statement 2023
By Sam James - Co CEO CVS Cheshire East
In light of the recent Autumn Statement 2023, Community and Voluntary Service Cheshire East (CVSCE) acknowledges the complexities and challenges presented by the new fiscal policies and their potential impact on the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector in Cheshire East.
As an organisation deeply embedded in the community for over 60years, with a vision to have VCFSE organisations at the heart of local decision-making, we are acutely aware of the effects these changes could have on our sector. The increase in the national living wage, while beneficial for workers, will increase operational costs for many VCFSE organisations. Additionally, the absence of an increase in local government funding, coupled with the effective £19.1 billion cut to public services by 2027-28, presents significant challenges for our sector, which is often reliant on public funding.
Our role in strengthening the sector through advocacy and collaborative efforts has never been more critical. We recognise the value of our expert knowledge and community asset database, and we are committed to leveraging these resources to support our sector during these challenging times. Our insights and capacity-building initiatives will be geared towards helping local VCFSE organisations navigate the changing financial landscape.
The Autumn Statement also presents opportunities, particularly in the area of energy-saving initiatives and the expansion of Investment Zones. We will actively explore these avenues to benefit our sector and the communities we serve.
As a proud affiliate of NAVCA and NCVO, we will continue to champion local interests and engage in national discussions to advocate for policies that support the resilience and sustainability of VCFSE organizations.
We stand in solidarity with our member organisations and partners as we collectively navigate these changes. Together, we will continue to build sustainable, resilient, and connected communities. Our commitment to being the voice and support for the VCFSE sector in Cheshire East remains unwavering.
