Job Title: Streetscene Improvement Officer
Grade: NALC LC2 26-29
Salary: £23,866 - £26,470
Fixed term contract for 24 months from January 2019
Crewe Town Council sees its role as a strong voice, representing the best interests of the people of Crewe. Based on population, it is believed to be one of the five largest Town and Parish Councils in the country. The Town Council is working with Cheshire East Council to address issues of fly tipping and poor waste management, and is recruiting an energetic and dedicated officer to support this initiative.
The post is funded for two years initially, with potential to extend, based on results. Working with Partners in Cheshire East Council and Ansa, the officer will build a profile of the ‘hot spot’ areas and investigate reports of fly tipping and poor waste management. The Officer’s work will co-ordinate with the Crewe Rangers to tackle the worst areas, fostering good citizenship and care for the environment. They will use letters, leaflets and other mechanisms to share key messages from the ‘No Rubbish Excuses’ campaign.
Taking responsibility for education, the post holder will work directly with residents, landlords, and small businesses to improve understanding of the systems in place to manage waste disposal and recycling. Where education is not sufficient to resolve specific issues, they will pass cases to Cheshire East’s enforcement team for further action to be taken. The post holder will also support volunteers and mobilise resources to aid their efforts to improve the environment. Experience of working in schools would be an advantage, as the post holder will engage with local primary schools where possible to encourage recycling and reduce littering.
The person will be a strong and diplomatic communicator, willing to knock on doors to engage with members of the community. They will be keen to find solutions and be pragmatic in their approach. They will report on activities and results to the joint working group, and make recommendations to improve the longer-term outcomes for the town.
Whilst the geographical area is quite small, access to a vehicle to travel around Crewe would be desirable.
To apply, please send a completed application and covering letter to:
Lindsay Lewis at Crewe Town Council.
