Message from Cheshire East Local Safeguarding Board Lay Member ; Sam

The Cheshire East Local Safeguarding Children Board meets every two months and is made up of senior personnel from both statutory and voluntary agencies to oversee the work of those agencies where they are engaged with the care of or education and development of children and young people.

The principal responsibility of the board is to ensure that every agency has the safeguarding of children at the forefront of their operations.

The board met on 12 November for their bi monthly board meeting.

The first agenda item was about extremism and radicalism and the need to be aware of how young people can become involved in terror activities at home and abroad and this is particularly poignant given the atrocities in Paris on Friday. The 'Prevent' strategy was outlined by detective constable Lesley Price who outlined the work that she and the team were doing in working with young people who were vulnerable to being radicalised in order to protect them and steer them away from this activity.

We heard about the Domestic Abuse case review audit report and an invitation was given for all to attend a Domestic Abuse presentation at Congleton Town Hall on Wednesday 25 November, 2015, between 0930 and 1230 hrs. This is an interactive, multi media event led by service users as part of 'White ribbon Day’.

The board also reviewed the improvement plan written following the recent OFSTED inspection and is the guide to service improvement during the forthcoming years that the Board will be demanding of the partnership and measuring against this benchmark.

The annual report of the Child Death Overview Panel was provided to the board which reviews the deaths of every child in the county in order to ensure that there have been no failings of any partner agency and every care was taken of that child or young person prior to there untimely death.

As always the board finance position was reviewed.

The next Board meeting will be in January 26.
